Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover!

When Brenda laid an egg that was not as pretty as the those around her, she worried that her new chick wouldn’t be as good as the others. But Brenda should have remembered the phrase “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” and realised that it is what’s on the inside that matters the most.

Self Regulation

Everyone slips into the red zone at times. Feeling angry and upset is normal, but there are ways we can help ourselves to get back into the green zone. Could you help the gorilla in this story when he finds himself in the red zone? What advice would you give him?

Ethel is proud of how she reacted in a kind way to finding rubbish left on the beach. Mrs Caswell tells a story about an act of kindness that changed the lives of many animals - for the better!

This week Ethel tries something new and discovers that she loved it! Mr Colourful explains that unless we try new things we could be missing out! And Mrs Caswell reads a story about Cefin the koala, who didn’t want to try anything new. Then, one day, Something terrible happens, and Cefin has no choice but to embrace something new.

That Warm Fuzzy Feeling!

Ethel gets a warm fuzzy feeling when she does something special for her Nanna. She and Mr Colourful discuss how kind words and actions make us feel so great. But how unkind words and actions make us all feel cold and prickly. The Warm Fuzzies and the Cold Pricklies is a story read by Mrs Caswell about a village who nearly lost all its happiness because of an evil troll.

The Problem With Problems

We all know that a problem shared is a problem halved! But do we know that small problems can grow into enormous ones if ignored? Mr Colourful teaches Ethel about the importance of talking, and Mrs Caswell reads a story about a lady who didn’t face up to her problem at all! Be warned, this story DOESN’T have a happy ending!

Ethel worries about being different, but Mr Colourful reassures her that being different is important. We hear a story about a penguin who feels different, and Mrs Caswell asks us to imagine a world where we were all the same.

When Ethel feels that Mr Colourful is better than her, she wants to change. But she soon realises that she doesn’t need to change herself, she is great as she is. Mrs Caswell reads a story about a chameleon who wants to be like other animals. But he soon learns that getting what you want, doesn’t always make you happy. The best version of you is YOU!

Friends and Forgiveness

When two best friends go on a travelling adventure together, the end up in a hot, harsh desert. They find themselves without enough water to drink, and end up having a big disagreement. Will they stay friends? Sand and stone is a story that will help us to understand that we can all move on from a quarrel.

As we launch our new topic Mr Colourful and Ethel discuss how we can learn about our locality by thinking about the past, the present and the future. Mrs Caswell reads a story about a little boy who travelled back to the Stone Age- or was it a dream?

Everyone reflects on our topic this term, and agrees how important it is look look after our planet. Mrs Caswell reads a story about a plastic bag who ends up in the sea. The problem is that other sea creatures think he is a jellyfish and try to eat him.

The Lion Inside

We all have a lion and a mouse inside us. This story tells the story of a little mouse who sets off on a brave journey to find his roar, only yo find out he already has the heart of a lion.

Ethel is feeling down in the dumps and is only focussing on the bad things! So Mr Colourful asks Mrs Caswell to explain how our invisible buckets can help us to feel better.

It’s St David’s Day, but Ethel is worried. Mr Colourful help Ethel and Mrs C reads a story to help us when we feel worried.

As we prepare for our “Welsh Fortnight” Ethel want to learn about dragons. Mr Colourful thinks the best dragons are fire breathing ones. This week’s story teaches us that it’s ok to be different when we meet a little dragon who isn’t like his family and friends.

Adults in Our Lives

February’s right explains how every adult who works with children should do the very best for them. Ethel learns that when she is encouraged to try hard she feels good about herself, and Mrs C reads a lovely Anthony Brown Story.

Believe in Yourself

Mr Colourful teaches Ethel the importance of working hard and doing your best, even when other don’t believe you can. Mrs C reads “Chinwag’s Tale” where he is constantly told he can’t do things because he is just a dog.

Hapus Dydd Santes Dwynwen

Ethel and Mr Coulourful are grateful for their friendship, and Hairy Scary learns that a hug is the greatest super power that a monster can have. Give someone that you live with a big hug to show how much you love them!

You Can Be Resilient

Our right for January is to be the best you can be! But to do that we need to be resilient when things don’t go our way or when things are difficult. Ethel manages to climb a tree when she thought she couldn’t, and Mrs C reads the second part of Square Head. Square head and Chinwag enter the scary forest and meet a monster with his own problems. But everyone shows resilience.

Ethel and Mr Colourful don’t agree on their EPIC planning, and Mrs C tells a story about a boy who was different!

Happy New Year! Ethel, Mr Colouful and Mrs Caswell explains how important it is to keep in touch while the school is closed for learners. We also learn about Janus and how it’s important to look back and forward with positivity.
